Coates 11 kW 240V Electric Spa Heater
The built in pressure switch prevents operation when there is no water flow and allows operation at flow rates between 15GPM and 80GPM. The stainless steel tank is designed to optimize heat transfer by directing the water flow over the incoloy elements efficiently.
Compact and efficient, Coates in-line spa heaters feature stainless steel tanks and replaceable incoloy elements.

Damage
Heater was damaged in shipping and had to have repaired before it could be used. Pool Supply support was willing to replace any broken parts but repair did not require parts, just labor. Installed now and is working well. Great heater for my hot tub. Thanks Pool Supply..

It can be made by putting two heating elements or three he knew Melman's and one unit. It takes 90 minutes or more to heat
They have to be installed correctly correct wiring and breaker switch breaker switch for each unit . Where I live in the desert there's not that many pool people that know how to install unit.

I have a small pool 6x 36 5 feet deep i am wondering it the 11kw heater will heat it and im wondering about electricity demands?

BEST ANSWER: Thats is over 7500 gallons. I do not think this heater is big enough for a pool 6 feet by 36 feet by 5 feet

The heat light will not come on?

BEST ANSWER: Do these things withthe heater shut off or thermostat as low as it goes.1. Check power to heater and that the circuit breaker for heater is on. 2. Make sure there is enough water in the pool- over the skimmer. 3. Make sure filter is clean and that the hoses are on correctly and valves (if any) are in the correct operating position .High pressure on your filter gauge could mean the filter is dirty, reducing flow or pressure to the heater - stopping it from coming on.3 Make sure the leaf basket (strainer) in the filter pump is clean and you have flow with the pump on.
4. Now press the reset on the heater in case it tripped due to any of the conditions you just checked. 5.Turn heater on and thermostat up to high. If it works then monitor the pool water until it gets to the temp you want it at. At this point slowly back down (lower) the thermostat just until the heater element light goes off and you are set. It should come back on, automatically, when the water temperature drops a little. If that does not work ,you may have a component problem with a flow or pressure switch, thermostat ,contactor, high limit switch or an element. You must be qualified to make these repairs. Some parts require testing for high voltage, Ohms resistance, amperage, and continuity. Although simple in theory, this can be dangerous. Best Regards---Gracie

I've had one of these for over a year and have had no problems. For troubleshooting, the first question is whether it is heading the water OK, in which case maybe just the light is bad. If it's not heating the water, then there must be something bad with the heating system itself (electrical connection or heating element).

The light goes out when the water reaches temperature. If the light does not come on the heating elements are not powered on. That could be because of a number of reasons such as; no power to the heater, not enough water flow, or bad relays.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, ours is outside! This thing is very powerful and works great! We have it in a stock tank so we can dip into a 99 degree sauna at any time.

I have an Intex above ground pool. Its 18ft round and I believe 52inches deep. Will the 11kw heat it enough. I'm not trying to make it feel like a hot tub or anything, just take the chill out. Also, how long would it take to take the chill out of the water? Estimate of course...

BEST ANSWER: This is a good heater, and of course will add some warmth. - However here is what you must consider.1. Indoor or outdoor pool. 2 .Air temp. around pool.3. Desired operating temp. 4.Surface area and water volume of the pool. 5 Cost effectiveness vs. a gas heater considering you will need a gas line compared to a dedicated power line. If gas is an option ? Gas is more efficient. I suggest you gather your info, and consult the Coates Heater Sizing Guide from their website. The electric heater does not do well in an outdoor ,unprotected environment. Solar heaters will also help but can be unattractive if not concealed well. The 11 kw heater with your pool will probably give you between .5 and .8 degrees of increase per hour depending on conditions and will most likely run at about 50% of the time. Keeping your pool covered will help with heat loss as well as the other conditions the pool is exposed to. I hope this helps. Regards,---Gracie

BEST ANSWER: HI,
I am plumbed with schedule 40 PVC and unions are available any where that handles that pipe. I also plumbed in a gate valve as my hot tub water level is above the heater outlet. That way if I need to remove the heater I can cut off the water and unscrew the union. I hope this helps.

How do you drain the spa?

In my case I just use a submersible pump and in a couple of hours the 800 gallons spa will be drain.
The last few gallons I use a shop vac to complete the job.

I have a small pool 6x 36 5 feet deep i am wondering it the 11kw heater will heat it and im wondering about electricity demands?

BEST ANSWER: Thats is over 7500 gallons. I do not think this heater is big enough for a pool 6 feet by 36 feet by 5 feet

can this be used for an above ground pool with 8 - 10,000 gallons?

Not really. I use on 1000 gallon spa and heats up 4 degrees per hour.

The heat light will not come on?

BEST ANSWER: Do these things withthe heater shut off or thermostat as low as it goes.1. Check power to heater and that the circuit breaker for heater is on. 2. Make sure there is enough water in the pool- over the skimmer. 3. Make sure filter is clean and that the hoses are on correctly and valves (if any) are in the correct operating position .High pressure on your filter gauge could mean the filter is dirty, reducing flow or pressure to the heater - stopping it from coming on.3 Make sure the leaf basket (strainer) in the filter pump is clean and you have flow with the pump on.
4. Now press the reset on the heater in case it tripped due to any of the conditions you just checked. 5.Turn heater on and thermostat up to high. If it works then monitor the pool water until it gets to the temp you want it at. At this point slowly back down (lower) the thermostat just until the heater element light goes off and you are set. It should come back on, automatically, when the water temperature drops a little. If that does not work ,you may have a component problem with a flow or pressure switch, thermostat ,contactor, high limit switch or an element. You must be qualified to make these repairs. Some parts require testing for high voltage, Ohms resistance, amperage, and continuity. Although simple in theory, this can be dangerous. Best Regards---Gracie

I've had one of these for over a year and have had no problems. For troubleshooting, the first question is whether it is heading the water OK, in which case maybe just the light is bad. If it's not heating the water, then there must be something bad with the heating system itself (electrical connection or heating element).

The light goes out when the water reaches temperature. If the light does not come on the heating elements are not powered on. That could be because of a number of reasons such as; no power to the heater, not enough water flow, or bad relays.

BEST ANSWER: Yes, ours is outside! This thing is very powerful and works great! We have it in a stock tank so we can dip into a 99 degree sauna at any time.

I have an Intex above ground pool. Its 18ft round and I believe 52inches deep. Will the 11kw heat it enough. I'm not trying to make it feel like a hot tub or anything, just take the chill out. Also, how long would it take to take the chill out of the water? Estimate of course...

BEST ANSWER: This is a good heater, and of course will add some warmth. - However here is what you must consider.1. Indoor or outdoor pool. 2 .Air temp. around pool.3. Desired operating temp. 4.Surface area and water volume of the pool. 5 Cost effectiveness vs. a gas heater considering you will need a gas line compared to a dedicated power line. If gas is an option ? Gas is more efficient. I suggest you gather your info, and consult the Coates Heater Sizing Guide from their website. The electric heater does not do well in an outdoor ,unprotected environment. Solar heaters will also help but can be unattractive if not concealed well. The 11 kw heater with your pool will probably give you between .5 and .8 degrees of increase per hour depending on conditions and will most likely run at about 50% of the time. Keeping your pool covered will help with heat loss as well as the other conditions the pool is exposed to. I hope this helps. Regards,---Gracie

BEST ANSWER: HI,
I am plumbed with schedule 40 PVC and unions are available any where that handles that pipe. I also plumbed in a gate valve as my hot tub water level is above the heater outlet. That way if I need to remove the heater I can cut off the water and unscrew the union. I hope this helps.

How do you drain the spa?

In my case I just use a submersible pump and in a couple of hours the 800 gallons spa will be drain.
The last few gallons I use a shop vac to complete the job.
