BEST ANSWER:Which side is bad? If its the side farthest from your motor assembly you will likely need a longer rope. The far side needs to travel from the motor assembly across 2 sides of your pool and back so 40 + 20 = 60 x 2 = 120. If its the side closest to your motor assembly the 100 ft should work just fine with some extra rope you will need to cut.
For my own pool I replaced one side but a season later the other side broke so be prepared if one is bad the other is likely not far from going bad as well.

My pool is 44ft long x 20 ft wide and the 100ft was plenty. They are good ropes. I'd recommend changing them both at the same time. I didn't and it was hard to keep the cover aligned since the old rope had more slack.
