Gunzite is Olympic's heavier primer for epoxy pool coatings, with viscosity for smoothing out rough surfaces like unfinished concrete or plaster as well as gunite and fiberglass pools. It acts as a fill coat to even out inconsistencies in texture to ensure a smooth application of paints such as Zeron and Poxolon 2.
The pool surface should be thoroughly acid washed, treated with phosphate to remove oils, algae and the acid and then hosed off before using Gunzite (please see details in the Product Resource Center to the right). This process creates a clean surface, ensuring a durable bonding of the primer and subsequent paint.
Like the Zeron paint which is often applied to it, Gunzite is comprised of primer and a separate catalyst, which are mixed together just before using. The result applies evenly but should be done fairly quickly, particularly in warmer temperatures. One gallon covers a minimum of 100 square feet, providing a dramatically smoother surface to extend the life of epoxy coatings.
