There are several factors that come into play when deciding
whether or not to install a pool slide in your swimming space. Before
purchasing a pool slide, it is imperative you answer the following questions
honestly. Not only will answering these questions make your journey easier but
will help determine what pool slide (if any) is the best (and safest) choice
for your family.
Is the Pool Slide CPSC Compliant?
Any time you’re shopping for a pool slide, you should verify your
selection meets the safety standards of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety
Commission (CPSC). CPSC-compliant slides have passed 48
unique performance tests to ensure their safety. All S.R. Smith residential and
commercial pool slides meet CPSC-compliance, so we recommend starting there.
What Pool Slide is Best for My Family?
Aside from safety, purchasing a pool slide should always be done
with one thing in mind: who will be using it? Will it be used by only children,
or adults too? How old are the children using it? What colors will look best in
your backyard or with your pool decor? This will help narrow down your search.
What is My Pool’s Installation Envelope?
All pool slides require a proper “installation envelope” specific
to your pool. An installation envelope is a series of minimum widths and depths
in the water determined to ensure swimmers will leave the pool slide and enter
the water safely. For instance, there must be a minimum of 3’ of water directly
under the slide flume for your pool to quality for a pool slide. The higher the
slide, the deeper the pool needs to be.
Do I Have Enough Deck Space?
The required deck space will vary based on how small or large
your pool slide is. For instance, smaller slides only need roughly 6’ x 7’ of
space, where some of the largest residential swimming pool slides require up to
7’ x 14’ of deck space. While we recommend installing a slide that fits your
