Works good for small pool
I have an above ground 18' x 9' pool and this heater works good for this size, any bigger and you might want to upgrade to the 11kW model. I replaced the filter/pump that came with the pool and upgraded to a larger sand filter/pump. This was necessary to get the required flow rate to get the heater switch to make up as it needs a minimum of 15 gpm. It takes a few hours to get the pool up to temperature but with the help of a cover it maintains the temperature very well. We have even done some night swimming with outside temps around 65 and the pool stayed warm and comfortable. Glad I made the purchase.

So far, so good
I'm using this unit to heat a 300-gallon hot tub. I chose it largely because it would fit into a rather small space. It's been running now for a few days and seems to work fine. It will raise the water temperature at a rate of about 8 degrees F per hour. I would like to have got the 11 kW version, but the existing electrical circuit would not support its current requirements. I installed it myself. This basically voids the Raypak warranty, but I figured even replacing a completely defective heater would cost less than having it professionally installed. While the plumbing was very easy, I would definitely recommend hiring an electrician to do the wiring if you are not 110% comfortable with that type of work.

Replacement 5.5kw
Nicely designed, fit right into space older Raypak 5.5 kw. Pool Professionals had no problem during replacement. However in the two weeks we have used it, we have found that the pressure is 5 lb. greater than with the old Raypak. 15 vis 10 with new filters in circulation system. Very nice to set Temperature to the degree.

I used your heater calculator and it said for my 16 ft round pool I only need this ET3 heater. Is that correct?

BEST ANSWER: We bought this for our 15 foot x 54 in tall round pool. It took some trial and error to get it functional. There wasn't a lot of info online and at one point I thought we bought the wrong wattage and should have bought the 11 kW heater, which meant our $1500 electrical work to wire out to the pool would have been for nothing. But after a lot of research about water math and pump configuration, I learned that this heater is effective once your pool water is above 68F. We opened our pool once the daytime temps started hitting 20C. You also need to control the flow rate for efficient heating so a bypass kit is needed. You'll also need a good solar cover. Over the course of three days in early May, we went from 68F to 85F using a flow rate of 20 and keeping the pool covered. Since May 18, we've kept the heater at 85F and it comes on at night but stays off during the day. When it's been really hot, I turn the heater off. Don't buy more than you need when it comes to an electric heater. Our hydro has increased by $27/month with the heater running. We now enjoy our pool a lot more!

will this replace the R552-2 5.5KW without modification of the existing space set up and plumbing? What's the space between inlet and outlet?

The newer E3T is 7 inches. I had to do some replumbing to make the connection work. Depending on your setup and if you have flex in the lines to the heater, it may or may not require plumbing. Remember the unions on the heater need to be exactly flush to one another or they will leak. I speak from experience. That is why I had to replumb. You don't want any tension on the unions trying to make up for the 1 inch difference or the unions will leak. But in reference to the E3T, it was a good choice to upgrade (and do some plumbing). the heater is much more efficient and working well. Hope this helps...

Will this heat a above ground 24ft pool?

BEST ANSWER: Well that's kind of a tough question, the answer is yes. But I would guess you will only go up about 2-3 degrees per day heating 8 hours a day. There is a whole formula for this based on Kw, BTUs and stuff. I have it in a 15' pool, I'm getting 5 degrees per day but we drop to 50 degree outside temps at night and I'm fighting an up hill battle. So the answer is yes, it'll just take longer to hit your desired temp.

We heat our 5,000 gal above ground pool which is in a insulated 20x30 metal building.
It takes 3 days to get to 94-96 degrees but maintains that year around.
We have bubble wrap and 6 air mattresses 10” thick for surface cover when not in use.
This heater is a workhorse.

I have a integrated system using one pump, filter and salt system with 2” lines. Can I use the 1-1/2 line heater for my spa?

BEST ANSWER: We moved a abovegroud pool inside a insulated 20x30 metal building and heat our 5000 gal pool to 98 year around.
We have a5.5k titanium heater and 2 bubble covers with 6 queen size 10” air mattresses to seal in heat.
In seattle area it’s pretty mild but we do get low temps occasionally. So you can heat a spa easily and also a pool with some engineering. Not sure if this answers your question but this is our experience. We couldn’t bear to not have our pool year around.

Yes, you can use pvc pipe reducer from the 2" lines to the 1-1/2" line heater. I have several valves to open/close just to heat the spa and not the pool.

I need an electric heater for a concrete hot tub - will this work? 2 meter by 2 meter . Will it heat to 104 degrees?

BEST ANSWER: Our hot tub is 500 gallons. It is inside. It is also always ready to use, we don’t shut it off. We set it at 103 degrees and the heater keeps it at 103 degrees. Very steady temp. If it was outside or shut down frequently a 10 kw would probably be a better bet.

I use this heater for an above ground pool that is 18'x9' and it works very well on warm summer days I have had the pool as hot 100 degrees. It should work very good for your hot, although when the ambient temperatures get low the heater takes a very long time to bring the temperature of the water up if it was turned off for a period of time.

BEST ANSWER: That would be a poor heater choice for your pool. A heat pump is much more efficient and will consume less energy. I would recommend a Raypak Heat Pump 5450 model. Raypak's Heat Pump Calculator at the following link: https://apps.raypak.com/gas_sizing/Raypak.php will allow you to punch in data for your pool. The desired temperature can be inserted in the left field settings, along with data about your location and pool surroundings. Choosing the months of the year at the temperatures desired, will reveal a pull down menu at the top center with the “selected unit”. You can then select the appropriate model or models and sort them for your selection.

I used your heater calculator and it said for my 16 ft round pool I only need this ET3 heater. Is that correct?

BEST ANSWER: We bought this for our 15 foot x 54 in tall round pool. It took some trial and error to get it functional. There wasn't a lot of info online and at one point I thought we bought the wrong wattage and should have bought the 11 kW heater, which meant our $1500 electrical work to wire out to the pool would have been for nothing. But after a lot of research about water math and pump configuration, I learned that this heater is effective once your pool water is above 68F. We opened our pool once the daytime temps started hitting 20C. You also need to control the flow rate for efficient heating so a bypass kit is needed. You'll also need a good solar cover. Over the course of three days in early May, we went from 68F to 85F using a flow rate of 20 and keeping the pool covered. Since May 18, we've kept the heater at 85F and it comes on at night but stays off during the day. When it's been really hot, I turn the heater off. Don't buy more than you need when it comes to an electric heater. Our hydro has increased by $27/month with the heater running. We now enjoy our pool a lot more!

will this replace the R552-2 5.5KW without modification of the existing space set up and plumbing? What's the space between inlet and outlet?

BEST ANSWER: I replaced my older raypak "spa pak" 5.5kw heater with the new E3T also, This is a good question... The older raypak "spapak" has a center to center dimension of 8 inches. The newer E3T is 7 inches. I had to do some replumbing to make the connection work. Depending on your setup and if you have flex in the lines to the heater, it may or may not require plumbing. Remember the unions on the heater need to be exactly flush to one another or they will leak. I speak from experience. That is why I had to replumb. You don't want any tension on the unions trying to make up for the 1 inch difference or the unions will leak. But in reference to the E3T, it was a good choice to upgrade (and do some plumbing). the heater is much more efficient and working well. Hope this helps...

Will this heat a above ground 24ft pool?

BEST ANSWER: Well that's kind of a tough question, the answer is yes. But I would guess you will only go up about 2-3 degrees per day heating 8 hours a day. There is a whole formula for this based on Kw, BTUs and stuff. I have it in a 15' pool, I'm getting 5 degrees per day but we drop to 50 degree outside temps at night and I'm fighting an up hill battle. So the answer is yes, it'll just take longer to hit your desired temp.

BEST ANSWER: Yes,
We heat our 5,000 gal above ground pool which is in a insulated 20x30 metal building.
It takes 3 days to get to 94-96 degrees but maintains that year around.
We have bubble wrap and 6 air mattresses 10” thick for surface cover when not in use.
This heater is a workhorse.

I have a integrated system using one pump, filter and salt system with 2” lines. Can I use the 1-1/2 line heater for my spa?

BEST ANSWER: We moved a abovegroud pool inside a insulated 20x30 metal building and heat our 5000 gal pool to 98 year around.
We have a5.5k titanium heater and 2 bubble covers with 6 queen size 10” air mattresses to seal in heat.
In seattle area it’s pretty mild but we do get low temps occasionally. So you can heat a spa easily and also a pool with some engineering. Not sure if this answers your question but this is our experience. We couldn’t bear to not have our pool year around.

Yes, you can use pvc pipe reducer from the 2" lines to the 1-1/2" line heater. I have several valves to open/close just to heat the spa and not the pool.

I need an electric heater for a concrete hot tub - will this work? 2 meter by 2 meter . Will it heat to 104 degrees?

BEST ANSWER: Our hot tub is 500 gallons. It is inside. It is also always ready to use, we don’t shut it off. We set it at 103 degrees and the heater keeps it at 103 degrees. Very steady temp. If it was outside or shut down frequently a 10 kw would probably be a better bet.

I use this heater for an above ground pool that is 18'x9' and it works very well on warm summer days I have had the pool as hot 100 degrees. It should work very good for your hot, although when the ambient temperatures get low the heater takes a very long time to bring the temperature of the water up if it was turned off for a period of time.

BEST ANSWER: That would be a poor heater choice for your pool. A heat pump is much more efficient and will consume less energy. I would recommend a Raypak Heat Pump 5450 model. Raypak's Heat Pump Calculator at the following link: https://apps.raypak.com/gas_sizing/Raypak.php will allow you to punch in data for your pool. The desired temperature can be inserted in the left field settings, along with data about your location and pool surroundings. Choosing the months of the year at the temperatures desired, will reveal a pull down menu at the top center with the “selected unit”. You can then select the appropriate model or models and sort them for your selection.
