Hot Tub Jet & Circulation Pumps
Much like a pool, hot tubs have different pumps responsible for different actions. They include the hot tub jet pump and circulation pump. Both pumps typically have a lifespan of 5 to 10 years, depending on use and maintenance. Some spa systems also have one hot tub pump responsible for circulation and jet action.

Hot Tub Jet Pumps
The hot tub jet pump is basically the muscle behind the spa jets you love to relax against after a long day. The jet pump is responsible for pushing the water through the jets and into the hot tub. A spa can have one to three hot tub jet pumps, depending on the model.

If you hear a humming, whining, screeching, or experience a decrease in water pressure (or there is no water coming from the jets at all), it may be time to replace your hot tub jet pump. If your pump has met the 5 to 10-year threshold, it may be wise to just replace it rather than try to fix individual components.

Hot Tub Circulation Pumps
The hot tub circulation pump pulls water through the filtration and heating system and back into the spa, giving you clean, safe, and enjoyable water to relax in.

If you notice foam in your hot tub, this could be an indication that your pump is not working the way it should be and needs to be investigated further. Or, if you hear noises coming from the pump, there could be air in the pump lines, calcium or lime deposits that have built up, or rusted bearings that need replacing.

If, however, there is no action coming from your circulation pump and you’ve checked to make sure the cartridge is fine and no GFCI breakers have tripped, it could be time for a replacement.
