BEST ANSWER:The black part you see below the button itself is about 1 to 1-1/2” long. The black threaded body of the air button sits below the surface of your tub/spa. Once you tighten the plastic nut (shown near the bottom of the black threaded body in the picture) you have about 1 to 1-1/8” of that threaded body left below the tub/spa. It sticks out under the tub/spa below the surface. You cannot cut these air actuator buttons or they will not work. So make sure you have enough space for the body of the button to sink down in to.

The actuator is located within the body of the air button. It is irrelevant where exactly. The part you see (the button itself) will be located flush on your tub or spa. The rest fits into the hole in the tub/spa. There is probably 1 to 1-1/2” of threaded plastic air button body that sticks out below the surface of your tub/spa. You put the air button in the hole in your tub/spa, go underneath and tighten the plastic nut and connect your air tube from the button to your pump. This unit does not come with an air hose.
