The CaliMar Platinum Series salt chlorine generators have the greatest chlorine output and longest warranty in the industry. This has only come about by CaliMar working closely with the best salt chlorine generator on the market to bring about the most user friendly, workhorse of a salt chlorinator.
The history of the CaliMar Platinum is rooted in the commercial salt chlorination segment of the swimming pool industry. Using revolutionary design and re-engineered components the CaliMar Platinum salt chlorinator was developed for a lower price point, stronger warranty and better, more reliable chlorine output. After all, reliably knowing your pool is safely chlorinated with natural chlorine is peace of mind.
How the Platinum Chlorinator Works:
Common salt (sodium chloride) is made up of two elements, sodium and chloride. When the CaliMar Platinum is installed, a measured quantity of salt is dissolved in the pool water to create a mild saline solution. As part of the daily filtration cycle, the pool water is passed through the electrolytic cell to produce chlorine, which is instantly dissolved into the water. The chlorine generator also produces ozone and hydrogen in the cell as by-products.
In simple, non-technical terms, the chlorine instantly starts to destroy bacteria, viruses and algae, after doing this it reverts back into dissolved salt. This cycle continues as new chlorine is produced from the salt water in the electrolytic cell, sanitizing the pool and changing once more back into dissolved salt. Every day, when the CaliMar Platinum system and the filtration system are switched on, dust and debris are trapped by the filter and the chlorinator sanitizes the water to make it safe and sparkling clean
Salt Requirements: The CaliMar Platinum is engineered to operate in a broad salt range with a minimum of 3,000 PPM; a salt residual of 4,000 to 4,500 PPM is recommended at all times for peak efficiency and best results. The CaliMar Platinum can also handle special application salt levels of up to 35,000 PPM without any adverse effects to the unit.
NOTE: High salt levels above 8,000 PPM may cause corrosion problems with metallic fixtures, light rings, ladders and handrails. We recommend the use of a pool salt, which can be purchased at pool stores and most hardware outlets. Granular salt, table salt, solar salt or water conditioner pellets can also be used but will have different dissolve rates; the salt you use should contain a minimum purity of 99% sodium chloride. Do not use salt that contains iodine or anti-caking agents like YPS, which can cause some discoloration of fittings and pool surface finishes. NOTE: Do not use rock salt due to its high levels of impurities.

Is it better to buy the 60000 gallon salt generator versus the 20000 gallon?
A shopper on Apr 26, 2022
BEST ANSWER: I would say yes …because the capacity of 60,000 producing clorox is higher than 20,000 wich means less % running the cell and will last longer ..if i have a 25 ,000 gallon pool i will buy the 60 …iif i have 15 i will buy 40 iif i have no more than 10,000 gallon i will buy the 20…
I noticed there are no unions or threading like others. What unions should one use?
Kigwana C on May 11, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Hi Kigwana. If you’re referring to how to attach the clear Cell Housing onto the PVC risers, they’re designed to be glued into place using PVC cement, rather than screwed on. (There may be screw-on housings you could buy separately, but the housing that comes with the system is designed to be glued.). You can see the description of this by scrolling to the bottom of the website, and clicking on “Resources” and “Product Manuals” below that . The next page will show you a list of manufacturers, but you won’t see the Calimar icon. Instead, choose “Click here” (in blue) at the top and you’ll be taken to an alphabetical list. Under “C” you’ll find Calimar. Then select the product you’re interested in to find the installation manual with details. You could also call the toll free number and ask any questions you have. The reps have always been very helpful when I’ve had to call. I’m an inexperienced homeowner, not an installer, but I found the installation process to be very simple. We’ve had our Calimar now for about a year, and like it very much. Hope that helps, Kigwana.
Can the control center be mounted outdoors? Does it have an ingress rating?
A shopper on May 29, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Yes it is rated for outdoor mounting. Don’t know about an exact rating, but I can tell you mine has been outside for 3 years trouble free. You might consider shading it just to prevent plastic fading, like anything…
can you switch 20 and 40 models on calmar systems?
A shopper on Mar 22, 2022
BEST ANSWER: You can switch from 20 to 40 if you switch the cell and the control center to 40. I did and the 40 was much more efficient.

Easy to install and use
We’ve owned our CaliMar for about a year, and like its ease of operation. The controls are simple to understand and use. We installed it ourselves, and the process was pretty straight-forward and quick.
