The Purpose of Swimming Pool Flow Meters
Swimming pool flow meters ensure a pool’s minimum flow requirements are met and are more commonly used in commercial pools. A pool flow meter’s speed is measured in gallons per minute (GPM) and calculated with this formula:
Pool Volume ÷ 6 ÷ 60 = Minimum Flow (GPM)
The “6” represents the time in hours it should take for your pool water to travel in and out of the filtration system. It’s also the average used by many health departments. For the most accurate read, we recommend installing your swimming pool flow meter after the heater and sanitation feed system (if possible). We also encourage verifying with your local health department for minimum flow requirements in your area.
