AquaRite provides complete pool and spa sanitization using ordinary salt. It converts a small amount of salt into a virtually endless supply of fresh, pure chlorine. This environmentally friendly and self-renewing process produces up to 1.45 pounds of chlorine a day, enough to keep the water in a 40,000-gallon pool clean, clear and luxuriously soft.

Right-sized salt chlorination.
Salt Chlorination Turbo Cells are available in three sizes – 40,000, 25,000 and 15,000 gallons. The three sizes enable you to right-size your system for the most efficient and cost-effective chlorination possible.
A little salt goes a long way.
Aqua Rite use advanced electrolytic technology to convert a small amount of ordinary salt – one teaspoon per gallon of pool water – into a virtually endless supply of fresh, pure chlorine. The process can produce up to 1.45 pounds of chlorine a day – enough to satisfy the sanitization requirements of pools up to 40,000 gallons (151,000L). And since the salt doesn’t wear out or evaporate, you rarely have to add more.
The science behind the technology.
There are two components to Aqua Rite: the control box and its patented Turbo Cell, a specially designed electrolytic converter that installs on your system’s return line, behind the pump, filter and heater. As pool water passes through the Turbo Cell, an extremely safe electrical charge generated by the control box automatically converts the dissolved salt into fresh, pure chlorine. The water is then dispersed evenly throughout the pool by the return jets. Each time the water is recirculated, the salt-based chlorine gets recharged and the cycle is repeated.
Right-sized salt chlorination.
Hayward now offers a new line of Turbo Cells for their salt chlorination and controls solutions. The cells now come in three sizes – 40,000 (151,000L), 25,000 (94,000L) and 15,000 gallons (56,000L). The new sizes enable you to right-size your system for the most
efficient and cost-effective chlorination possible. These cells are based on the proven Turbo Cell technology that made Hayward the leader in salt chlorination. They automatically generate a self-renewing supply of fresh, pure chlorine – for water that’s clean, clear and
luxuriously soft.
AquaRite is the #1 selling electronic chlorine generator that eliminates the need to mix, measure and mess around with liquid or tablet chlorine and dramatically enhances the swimming experience. The #1 Selling Chlorinator in North America for the last decade, takes the worries and hassle of pool ownership, go with the recogized leader! - Various cell sizes available - right-size your pool equipment - Generates Cl2 automatically.
  • Adjustable chlorine output from 1-100%
  • Enables proper sanitization of pools & spas
  • Always crystal clear and ready for swimming
  • Microprocessor automates all functions
  • Digital salt display and 8 diagnostic indicators
  • Super chlorinate function
  • Quick, weatherproof connections inside control door
  • Single unit for 120VAC/240VAC 50/60Hz power input

TurboCells come in three sizes for in-ground pools – 40,000, 25,000 and 15,000 gallons. The three sizes enable you to right size your salt system for the most efficient and cost-effective chlorination possible. The TurboCells automatically generate a self-renewing supply of fresh, pure chlorine for water that's clean, clear and luxuriously soft.

TurboCells come equipped with Aqua Plus, SwimPure Plus and SwimPure Plus with Controls – all 40,000 gallon TurboCells.

aqua rite unit when power comes on flow meter flashes then it turns off generating light comes on for ten seconds then turns off and power light is also off can you advise ?
Laurie G on Sep 27, 2015
BEST ANSWER: F fuse is good, heat sensor diode on board is prob bad. Look at the mother board and the brown disc the size of a nickel or quarter. It will be split or cracked looking at it sideways.
Put in 2 new circit boards in not getting readings reading is 100r ?
John O on Mar 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: When I had a problem with my original system, I replaced the t-cell. While my manual strip readings were within the proper parameters, my box kept giving me strange readings. Turns out that the newer cells are not compatible with older control boxes (my original was installed in 2004). All cells manufactured after 2009 are not compatible with control boxes made prior to that year. I replaced the control box and I was back in business.
How much and what kind of salt will I need to put in my pool for a 16' by 32' pool?
Y M on Sep 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: ECalculating the Volume (Gallonage) of Your Swimming Pool
Knowing the volume of water (in gallons) in your swimming pool is important in all areas of swimming pool maintenance and chemical applications. It is also vital to know when choosing the appropriate pool equipment for your swimming pool. Simply stated, the volume of your pool is a calculation of your swimming pool's dimensions multiplied by your pool's average depth. What follows is a chart designed to help you estimate the gallonage in your style swimming pool. After that we have posted many of the most common dimensions with their calculated gallonage.
Chart To Estimate Gallonage of Swimming Pools
Average Depth = depth at the deep end + the depth at the shallow end / 2.
Rectangular Pools - Multiply length x width x average depth x 7.5 = gallons
Round Pools - Multiply diameter x diameter x average depth x 5.9 = gallons
Oval Pools - Multiply full width x full length x average depth x 6.7 = gallons
* Irregular shapes and size pools capacity should be determined by your pool builder or specialist.
* If your pool has sloping sides, multiply your final figure of gallonage by 0.85 for correct gallonage.
Common Pool Sizes and Gallonage Capacity
Round Pools 48" Deep
15ft - 5310 Gallons
18ft - 7646 Gallons
21ft - 10,407 Gallons
24ft - 13,593 Gallons
27ft - 17,204 Gallons
28ft - 18,502 Gallons
Above Ground Ovals 48" Deep
12x24 - 4502 Gallons
15x24 - 9648 Gallons
15x25 - 10,050 Gallons
15x30 - 12,060 Gallons
16x24 - 10,291 Gallons
16x32 - 13,721 Gallons
18x33 - 15,919 Gallons
18x36 - 17,366 Gallons

18x36 - 24,300 Gallons
20x40 - 30,000 Gallons
24x44 - 39,600 Gallons

if I have a 20000 gallon pool should I use a 40000 gal system?
A shopper on Jun 10, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I have an 18K gallon pool and I bought the 40K AQR. All my (substantial) research said this is the smart move. Essentially, it simply means that you will have a couple more years on the cell before it needs to be replaced. BTW, I am very pleased with my choice to convert to salt and also with my choice of getting the Hayward AQR. If you have a heater be sure to put a check valve between the heater and the salt cell. An inline sacrificial anode grounded to the heater is also a good idea. Good luck ... George
how do i reset the generator controller? The display lights keep saying to check the cell and salt.
Bob H on Jun 5, 2016
BEST ANSWER: First, check your salt level with a test strip, if the level is too low, it will not register on the readout and will cause the salt light to illuminate. Once you have adjusted salt level to at least 2800, then shut down power to the box, wait 15 seconds, repower the box. You may have to let the unit run at least 12 hours before the box gives the new reading. Once the salt is correct, the check cell light should extinguish, it comes on with the low salt because if the levels are too low, the system does not generate and the box defaults to show the check cell light.
my pool is 28,500 gallons what system should I get ?
A shopper on Jul 9, 2021
BEST ANSWER: Get one bigger than the recommended capacity. I have one that is 45,000 gallon capacity for my 20,000 gallon pool. It’s just right. The output is adjustable, but I still run it at 100% in hot weather.
salt flashs wont generate???????
A shopper on Sep 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If you are in a cold weather climate, it could just be that you are below the temperature range and no salt generator will work. If you were in a warmer climate where the water is warm enough., Then I would check the salt cell next, see if it needs to be cleaned. You can also check what the unit says your salt level is versus what a pool supply house as it is with the water sample. That can tell you whether a sensor is not working properly. If it's none of that and you are techy savvy, then on the motherboard there is a brown round disc that is about the size of a quarter. If there is a crack around the side of it or it is separated. Then that is your problem. In that instance you can try to replace that die out on your own, find someone who rebuilds boards either in your area or online, or you have to buy new board. The first two options are definitely a lot cheaper. There was a period of time when Hayward had issues with that heat sensor diode. I hope that that helps
I M lookling for a replacement for my swim pure that is 6 years old. Is this a good alternative at 900 vs, the older model at 1300 ?
leslie b on Jun 14, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I don't know anything about the swim pure. I put the Hayward in my 26,000 gal pool and it is working very well and the water is as clear as a bell with only adding salt. Unit works well and I have had it at least three years with no problems...
First I love the unit, it's my third, since all units only last about four (4) year, on this unit the "check cell" light is flashing and even though I have checked the cell and it is clear and flushed it out anyway, the light keeps flashing (though the unit is still apparently generating chlorine)?
Ed on Mar 13, 2016
BEST ANSWER: First, have you reset it by pushing the small button to the left of the dig screen and hold it down for ten secs. If that doesn't get it, the have a pool place make sure the cell is good. Even if new, it could be bad.
How does this compare to the intelliclhor?
Shawn M on Sep 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: They are both good systems and work well. The only reason I chose this system over the intellichlor system is the fact that the intellichlor doesn't show the salt level, it just tells you if your salt is low or high...not how low or high.
How long will the TurboCell 15 last in a 20,000 gallon pool before it needs to be replaced?
A shopper on Jul 13, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Probably 5 to 7 yr depends on how well you maintain it.
It is a good ida to clean it at least every 3-4 months with very minimal acid. 5 to 1 ratio. Also don’t turn on the dial on maximum all year around. Depending on outside temperature
What is the Difference between cells ?
A shopper on May 8, 2020
BEST ANSWER: Each cell is rated for the size or pool gallons of water. It usually advisable to go up one size. The cell will last longer and not have to work as hard.
how easy is this to install?
A shopper on Sep 4, 2019
BEST ANSWER: I used my pool professional to get the extended warranty to 3 years from Hayward. He billed me $150.00 to install it. My advice would be to have a pro do it unless you are really mechanically inclined.
I have a 6000 gal inground pool. I need a complete new chlorine generating system. Conferting from a Purechlor system. Which one is the best one which one do I need?
Harlan S on Mar 31, 2019
BEST ANSWER: We are a pool maintenance and service company, and the Hayward AQR systems are the only sale system we use. They are superior to other brands in my opinion.
The default salt display gives an unusual reading 3.50 while the pool water chlorine and pH readings are perfect. How do I correct to between 2800 - 3500?
A shopper on Sep 16, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It sounds like you may have replaced your cell recently. New cells have a newer program that does not translate well on an old control panel. This is what happened to me, I finally replaced the control panel and the problem was solved. An alternative temporary fix would be to periodically check your salt level with test strips or have water sample tested at your local pool store.

Can aqua rite control be used wth a Pentair 520555 IntelliChlor IC40 Salt Chlorine Generator Cell?
A shopper on Oct 1, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The Hayward AquaRite is not comparable with the Pentair IntelliChlor. They will not work together. The AquaRite is only comparable with the T-Cells or the generic equivalents.

Nice product - poor instructions
Installed and working well. Difficult manual to get through as some of it left me guessing. All seems to be good though. Nice system otherwise.

Hayward Aqua Rite generator, 40,000 gal
Had this unit installed in October 2015, about a year ago, and it has performed in an outstanding manner. Unit might be a little larger than I needed for my pool but it maintains the water quality at the proper levels with limited maintenance. I have already recommended it to many folks living in the community. Limited amount of salt needed to maintain proper pool and spa quality. Overall I am very pleased with the purchase and the quality of service provided by Pool Supply Unlimited. Will call again for any other pool needs. EAT

I am relying on comments from my pool guy but he says everything is working well with the Hayward generator. I notice the difference in the water and would recommend the investment.

This is my second unit
My brother-in-law would take care of the pool during the summer when I was up north. He would make "adjustments" to the pool operation and chemistry that I had a hard time understanding. Now the chemistry takes care of itself with little intervention, I am happy with the results.
