Consistently Warm Water, Even When It's Cold Outside
Imagine if anytime you wanted to take a dip in the pool-early in the season, late in the fall or just one evening after dark-your pool's temperature was perfect! Hayward®'s HeatPro® Heat Pump, a high-efficiency heater, gives you the ideal water temperature while using less energy than natural gas heaters. It offers an alternative way to heat your pool that is safe, reliable, and energy efficient.
To heat your pool water efficiently, the HeatPro takes the heat from the surrounding air and uses it to warm the water in your pool eliminating wasted energy. Its digital LED control panel provides an easy-to-read digital temperature display, and shows diagnostic codes for quick identification of components that might need service.
Designed with the consumer in mind, the HeatPro's round base and compact footprint is ideal for retrofit replacements, allows for easy installation, and has integrated hurricane tie-downs to meet local codes. Also, adding value is its ArmourCoil® protected heat exchanger, which allows the water passing through the system to be heated and returned to the pool. With its precision electronic temperature control, the perfect water temperature is constantly maintained, providing continued energy savings. The HeatPro Heat Pump can save you up to 80% on your heating costs, paying for itself in just one year. Why not save money, savor your backyard oasis and be environmentally conscience-all while staying cool.
Hayward HeatPro heat pumps incorporate titanium counter-flow heat exchangers for unrivaled and uncompromising performance " even under the harshest conditions. Other key features include: heavy-duty, super-quiet scroll compressors; durable injection-molded UV-resistant body panels that are impervious to rust and deterioration; stainless steel hardware; and a polyethylene screen to protect the evaporator coil from damage. Plus, Hayward HeatPro heat pumps are lightweight, compact and easy to install or service, making them ideal for both new pools and spas and existing system upgrades.
The pool heater was simple to install and to operate. It has performed well so far and easily heats our 20,000 gallon indoor pool during all but the coldest weather.
When we started opening our pool the water temperature was 50 degrees F. We let the pool heater run for 3 days and it brought the temperature up to the 88 degrees. Now I only run the pool heater for 12 hours a day and half the time the pool heater doesn't run because the water temperature is stable at 87 degrees. You only hear the fan running not the compressor. The fan is not loud at all.
BEST ANSWER:Unlikely. Depends upon how long the temps stay at 40F. Here in WA, we can see weeks of low temps.
I assume from the question that the pool is outdoors. My pool is just slightly smaller than 20,000 gallons and indoors. However in my experience, the heat pump performance falls off rapidly at temps in the low forties.
We can maintain a warm pool but 40F is definitely at the bottom of its heating range.

I have found the best way to estimate the size heat pump you will need to heat your pool is to multiply the area of your pool by the temperature rise (90-40 = 50 degrees) then multiply that figure by 12.. (Pool area x temperature rise x 12 = heater BTU). Bill
What is the minimum air temp that this unit can work and still warm pool. Late fall and winter here get down to 40 F average 30 degrees. Will this unit still produce enough heat to warm pool for swimming at those temps?
BEST ANSWER:This unit is heating only and not a heat pump. So, below approx 45F it doesn't perform well and spends a great deal of time waiting for defrost. I ran it successfully through our Western Washington winters. (Indoor pool) but the efficiency went way down and the cost of heating the pool went way up. Since the pool isn't getting used as I had hoped, this winter I shut the pool down and am saving the $$.

my htr. works well down to the 50 degree range. works very well above the 60 degree range . my pool is 25 x 45 and holds almost 500000 galns. of water. im more than happy with the performance of the hayward pool htr. chris n.
BEST ANSWER:It does not have heating/cooling capability, pool heating only so the only defrost function is to shut down the compressor and run the outdoor fan until any ice melts. Western WA winter weather is typically in the 40's and wet. I left the heat pump on all last winter but believe the electric pool heater supplemented the heat pump at temps below 40F. It does not actually shut down but heating performance falls off. Spends a great deal of time in defrost.
