Algae are microscopic plants " and the most common, troublesome aspect of pool maintenance. They can make your pool cloudy and murky. They also can clog your filter, and increase chlorine demand even before they are visible. Algae usually start in hard-to-reach crevices in the pool surface or areas of poor circulation. You need algae protection the most when water temperatures rise. That's why the middle of the swimming season is prime time for algae to develop. Prevention is by far the best way to fight algae.
Nava 90 Day Algaecide does an effective job of controlling green, blue-green and mustard colored algae growths in swimming pools. For black algae problems, the use of
Nava Quick Dissolving Shock is recommended. Follow all precautions, directions and restrictions per their labeling for all pesticide products being used.
Directions for use:
- Adjust pH of pool water to 7.2"7.6. Use Nava pH Increaser (Soda Ash) to raise pH and Nava pH Decreaser (Sodium Bisulfate) or Muriatic Acid to lower it. Follow the instructions on the label of product chosen.
- Add 1 pound of Nava Quick Dissolving Shock, or 3 quarts of Liquid Chlorine per 10,000 gallons of pool water to oxidize water soluble wastes. Allow to
circulate one hour. (NOTE: Do not enter the pool until chlorine residual drops to 3.0 ppm.) - Using an algae brush, brush algae spots prior to product application. Brush daily for the next few days if necessary to promote penetration of product into algae spots to improve eectiveness. Add 10 oz. of Nava 90 Day Algaecide per 10,000 gallons of pool water. Preferably, dilute the concentrate into one or two gallons of water and apply to the deep end of the pool.
- Filter continuously for 24 hours. Check available chlorine, if necessary adjust to 3 ppm minimum. Dead algae may be visible as a gray or white water cloudiness. Living algae will have a green, brown, yellow or black color. If algae has color after 24 hours repeat treatment as necessary for removal.
- Once algae is dead, turn of filter system (including timer)and allow 18 to 24 hours for dead algae to settle to the bottom of the pool.
- Brush or vacuum to remove dead algae. Backwash the filter. Return filter system to normal operation.
- Add 5 oz. of Nava Label 90 Day Algaecide per 10,000 gallons of pool water as a maintenance dose.
