BEST ANSWER:You could probably get a couple of seasons out of it if your calcium isn't too terrible. My daughter let it float in the pool while she took a break from using it and it had the same effect as leaving a bar of soap floating in the pool--started to disintegrate. Still, it will do the job for our pool for 2-3 years.

BEST ANSWER:It's like a big crayon - you just rub it on the tile like you're drawing on your tile with a crayon and it rubs the mineral deposits off. It's actually kind of like a wax/soap consistency (much softer than the tile and grout) but with some gritty stuff mixed in.
