Perfect fit and now my salt generator is clear!! I replaced my 15 year old housing which had a crack after it fell while I was doing some routine maintenance of the cell. I also bought the cell head replacement kit to go with it. All in all very happy with the product and it was a very easy replacement project.
BEST ANSWER:Glued. But now that you mention it, I wish I would have incorporated my own unions. For a time, there were no replacement cells. So I removed the housing, bypassed the plumbing, and manually chlorinated. When reliable, aftermarket cells finally hit the market, I had to buy this and glue it in to a different plumbing location.

Unfortunately no union. You have to glue it. So be careful when removing the existing one if you want to have the new housing in the exact same location.
For the ESC 36, is it recommended to replace the Salt Cell Housing when replacing the Salt Cell?

BEST ANSWER:Don’t think so. My housing was 14 years old and went through a Category 4 Hurricane Laura. I’m replacing now in case the housing was cracked. Pool liner was damaged and since the pool is getting a new liner and refill, this is a good time while everything is shutdown.

Not unless the housing is compromised. If you do replace it look up how the manufacturer recommends installing it. Mine was installed wrong from the pool builder. IIRC it has to be installed horizontally with 6” of pipe extending in and out of the housing then the 90’s.
If the housing is in a good condition then you don’t have to replace it when replacing the salt cell. Typically that will require some unnecessary piping work.
